Cultural Travel Around the World in Your Pajamas

How would you like an adventure that takes you all over the world in 80 days? What about cultural travel around the world in your pajamas? It is possible, you know. Now with the internet, food channel, travel channel and every other kind of connection to cultures in distant lands, one can literally travel around the world without leaving home. For those of you who are not adventuresome, perhaps this is the way to experience the world. Or perhaps you can’t travel for reasons regarding health or disability. You can still see the world. You could see it through the eyes of photographer Marty Essen. Essen, who has traveled the globe focusing on wildlife, shares his experiences on his website as well as through presentations.

His website,, explains his “Around the World in 90 Minutes” presentation as a “high-energy show featuring interesting facts, humorous stories, and the best of the thousands of photos Marty Essen took while traveling for his multi-award-winning book… One part lecture, one part theater, one part slide show, and one part comedy—it’s the type of show where the audience has fun laughing at the stories, oohing and aahing at the photos, and then, when it’s all done, they realize just how much they’ve learned.”

Essen began his presentation by explaining how his travels and his love of writing joined together to create an amazing career path, writing a book about traveling to all seven continents pursuing the exploration of interesting wildlife.

“The theme of our travels, despite any political hardship, was always looking for the most interesting wild animals,” said Essen.

It is no longer necessary to get on an airplane to experience different cultures, or wild life. Cultural travel around the world in your pajamas is now possible. Perhaps your interest is food, or textiles, or different rituals that other cultures practice. Whatever your passion is for seeing the world, there are many ways to do it while never leaving home.
